THE CHARITY:

The Lilith Fund

With "Endless Bloom," Lauren showcases her irreverent yet playful style with a colorful, cyclical interpretation of Southwestern flora and fauna. The coyote, a ubiquitous symbol for the region, is highlighted in the design looking rather fertile, with a bouquet of flowers. In Lauren's words, "Although the Southwest appears barren to the naked eye, closer examination and knowledge reveal a hearty, thriving ecosystem. This strength and perseverance through particularly harsh conditions is a perfect analogy for the current state of womxn’s rights. The title “Endless Bloom” is a nod to the resilience of womxn and our ability for growth through adversity."

For this series and her design, it’s also especially important to Lauren to acknowledge this region’s past. In particular, the history of violence against and decimation of Indigenous people. "As a queer white woman, I recognize my privilege and I always want to be mindful and respectful of how I am taking up space. For my design in particular, I would be remiss to not include that the use of geometric patterning is reminiscent of motifs made by traditional Navajo weavers. It’s important to me to highlight this connection, because so often the influence of these cultures simply stolen without attribution or erased. Furthermore I acknowledge that I am living on Tonkawan, Comanche, and Lipan Apache land."

LAUREN DICKENS

Austin-based artist Lauren Dickens is a graphic designer, creative director, native Texan, baller, and self-proclaimed "dog freak." Specializing in brand identity and art direction, her cutting-edge, colorful work strikes a unique balance of tongue-in-cheek playfulness with poignant, sometimes scathing social commentary. Her designs draw inspiration from the awe of the natural world, while simultaneously trying to make sense of the modern age we're in. Her ever-expanding client roster includes (among many others) global brands like Target, Patagonia, and South by Southwest, along with popular Austin mainstays like Independence Brewing Co, Better Half Coffee & Cocktails, and Revival Cycles. In contemplating her personal connection to this series, Lauren told us, "I’m a born and raised Texan, a vast state with endless inspiration. Texas is a bridge from the East to the West, and I’m constantly drawn to the openness of the desert landscape. Being under a big sky makes me breathe in deeper.”

THE LILITH FUND

The Lilith Fund is the oldest abortion fund in Texas, serving the central and southern regions of our state with direct financial assistance for abortions. They provide financial assistance and emotional support, while building community spaces for people who need abortions in Texas—unapologetically, with compassion and conviction. Through organizing and movement-building, they foster a positive culture around abortion, strengthen people power, and fight for reproductive justice in and with our communities.

Explaining why she chose this cause to support, Lauren explained, "The Lilith fund has been around here in Austin for many years, and they’ve done an incredible job providing education and reproductive health resources for underserved womxn in the community, particularly BIPOC. I felt it was important to give back to the city and state in which I live, and their mission if intersectionality is crucial—now more than ever.”
